Synergies between Urban Heat Island and Heat Wave Risks in Romania: Climate Change Challenges and Adaptation Options (SynUHI)

The increasing world population constantly seeking comfort and safety has triggered intense urbanization. Cities generate the Urban Heat Island (UHI), which is one of the major concerns for urban development, particularly under the rising occurrence of climate hazard events, such as heat waves (HWs). The overall scope of the project is to substantiate the capacity of the cities in Romania to adapt to temperature hazards associated with climate change challenges, through an interdisciplinary approach envisaging both the actual reaction of the cities and the long-term preparedness and plans. The analysis focuses on county-capital cities in Romania.
